Ann will be hosting a Covid-19-safe meet-and-greet on Sunday, Sept. 19, from noon to 2 p.m., in the driveway of her family’s oceanfront cottage at 174 Ocean Blvd.

Please come meet the candidate for what promises to be an intellectually stimulating and environmentally refreshing two hours on the Southern Shores coast.

The 1970s-era cottage, which still rents, was the first oceanfront home built on pilings in Southern Shores. (See vintage family photo, above.) It is flanked by historic flat tops.

We plan to serve mini-bottles of beverages and individually bagged snacks, in order to minimize hand-to-hand contact. We also will have written materials about Ann’s candidacy and political yard signs available for guests to pick up.

In the event of rain, we will try to reschedule the event later in the week.

Parking will be at a premium, so if you can bike or walk, please do.

If you have any questions about the meet-and-greet, please call campaign co-manager Ursula Bateman at 261-1617 or email the committee at vote4annsj@gmail.com.

Let’s enjoy the seaside beauty of Southern Shores together and talk about the town’s future.

Thank you. We hope to see you on the 19th!

Ann’s campaign yard signs have arrived! We will be distributing them throughout town, as requested, on Thursday and Friday. All signs must be on private property, far removed from the public right-of-way, to conform with the Town Code.

We thank everyone who asked for a yard sign to show their support for Ann’s candidacy. If you would like to request one or more to display on your property, please email Ann at vote4annsj@gmail.com or call Ursula Bateman at 261-1617.

Please check back with us soon for more news about Ann’s campaign.

Thank you!

8/31/21: Welcome!

Welcome to Ann Sjoerdsma’s website for her campaign for Southern Shores Town Council.

The election is Nov. 2, and early voting starts Oct. 14. In addition to a new Town Council member, Southern Shores voters will be electing a new mayor.

Our home page will feature a blog that connects to our Facebook page, which is located at http://www.facebook.com/annsjoerdsmaforcouncil. We will start posting news items after Labor Day.

Because of the local surge in COVID-19 cases of the Delta variant, Ann’s campaign will be largely run electronically. Ann and members of her campaign team will not be going door-to-door to meet people and talk town issues and concerns. This vital give-and-take will be managed instead through email and online exchanges.

We are still considering a COVID-cautious outdoors meet-and-greet for Ann on the oceanfront and will let you know the date, time, location, and other details ASAP.

We already know that the Southern Shores Candidate Forum hosted by the Dare County League of Women Voters will be virtual, although we do not know yet what form it will take. Please mark your calendars for Wed., Oct. 14, at 6:30 p.m. We will give you details about how you may tune into the forum when the League advises us. After the event, a videotape will be available for viewing on You Tube.

We will keep you updated here and on the Facebook page about Ann’s campaign and the election schedule. Please check back with us.

Thank you!
