Dear Southern Shores Friends and Neighbors:
I deeply regret that I had to cancel my Sept. 19 meet-and-greet and am hopeful that I will be able to reschedule in mid-October. In the meantime, I will be working on campaign mailings and (limited, because of COVID-19) door-to-door canvassing.
My campaign team and I are currently stuffing envelopes for a limited-distribution mailing of a campaign flyer that a random selection of voters town-wide will receive. We will follow this up in October with a town-wide mailing to all voters.
Why a limited mailing? We have extra flyers on hand because of the meet-and-greet and would like to circulate them.
My campaign team is continuing to distribute yard signs to residents who request them. If you would like a sign for your yard, please email me at email@example.com. All signs must be placed on your private property, clear of the public right of way.
The following is an election schedule with key dates and deadlines:
OCT. 3: The Dare County Board of Elections (DCBOE) will start mailing absentee ballots on Oct. 3 to voters who requested them.
It is possible to request an absentee ballot from the DCBOE up until 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 26. The DCBOE must receive your completed and signed absentee ballot request form by that time.
To download a request for an absentee ballot and instructions, see North Carolina Absentee Ballot Request Form
OCT. 8: You may register to vote in the Nov. 2 election up until 5 p.m., on Friday, Oct. 8. It is possible to register online. (See link below.)
OCT. 13: The League of Women Voters of Dare County’s Southern Shores Town Council Candidate Forum will be held on Wed., Oct. 13 at 6:30 p.m. Two Town Council seats are up for election: the one for which I am running and the Mayor’s seat.
Because of COVID-19, the LWV’s forum will be virtual for both the candidates and their audience and accessible via Zoom. You may register for it, and also submit a question to ask the candidates, at Webinar Registration – Zoom.
You also may submit a question for candidates by email to DareLWV@gmail.com. The League asks that you include your name and town of residence with your email.
The forum videotape will be available for viewing on You Tube after Oct. 13.
OCT. 14: Early voting for the election begins Oct. 14 and runs through Oct. 30. It will be conducted at the Kill Devil Hills Town Hall and the Dare County Administration Building in Manteo from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and on Sat., Oct. 30, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be no early voting on the weekends of Oct. 16-17 and Oct. 23-24.
ELECTION DAY, TUESDAY, NOV. 2: The Southern Shores polling place for voting on Nov. 2 will be the Kitty Hawk Elementary School gymnasium, not the Kern Pitts Center, where you customarily vote. The polls will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

I welcome your support for my candidacy and hope you vote4ann—by absentee or early ballot or on Nov. 2 at the elementary school. Thank you very much.
Have a beautiful fall weekend.
All the best, Ann
